Botanical Gardens: Principles of Ecology

March 9, 11, 16 and 18. Total 12 hours (Fridays 5:00-8:00 PM and Sundays 2:00-5:00 PM)

This course is a requirement for those pursuing the Certificate in Native Studies Program and a pre-requisite for many upcoming courses.

​This course will introduce students to broad ecological concepts from species interactions to ecosystem services. It will touch on world-wide issues such as species extinctions and climate change, as well as topics that hit closer to home like invasive plants and suburban land development. Recommended reading prior to the start of the class is the book Bringing Nature Home by Doug Tallamy, which has become an essential reference for people interested in the role native plants play in our ecosystems.

Class limit:  22 participants
Pending approval of 10 C.E. credits from NCBLA
