Dr. Bertha Maxwell-Roddey Distinguished Africana Lecture

Bertha Maxwell-Roddey Lecture 2017

Dr. Ophelia Garmon-Brown and Charles Dee O’Dell, co-chairs of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force, will report on the task force’s findings at the 2017 Dr. Bertha Maxwell-Roddey Distinguished Africana Lecture, A Roadmap of Opportunity for Charlotte.  Special recognition and a reception will follow.

UNC Charlotte’s Africana Studies Department inaugurated the annual lecture in 2008 to honor Dr. Bertha Maxwell-Roddey’s pioneering contributions to the development of Africana Studies as an academic discipline at UNC Charlotte. The lecture is an intellectual and social forum to engage with and connect to the Charlotte region’s diverse populations on issues of broad relevance.

The event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are requested at 704-687-5161 or at africana_studies@uncc.edu. Parking is available for a minimal charge in Cone Visitors Parking Deck.
