Sixth Annual Veterans Health Conference

Keynote Speech: "It Takes a Community to Return a Veteran"

Staff Sergeant Tom Rieman, U.S. Army (Retired)

Staff Sergeant Tom Rieman received the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his acts of courage during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and was later featured in "Halfway Home," a documentary about the struggles soldiers face when they return from war. SSG Rieman serves as an ambassador for USO of North Carolina, and was named 2013 Veteran of the Year by U.S. Veterans Corps. His work in the community focuses on raising awareness about PTSD and life after injury.

Conference also features:

Talks from state and local leaders including representatives from Veterans Bridge Home, Cardinal Innovations, Disabled Veterans of America, student veterans and disability claims attorneys

Interactive breakout sessions covering topics including veterans rights advocacy, processing disability claims, traumatic brain injuries, poly-trauma and mental health

Free *CEUs available for nurses and social workers

*This activity has been submitted to the North Carolina Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. The NCNA is accredited as an approver of continuing nurse education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation

This conference is funded by a grant from the UNC Charlotte Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund. The conference is also sponsored by the UNC Charlotte Graduate Social Work Association and Bachelor of Social Work Club.
